Crucial MX500 SSD Quick Review

Crucial MX500 is the new SSD from Micron. It’s one of the latest released SSDs in 2018, but there are a lot of models already available on the market so far this year. Crucial being a very reputed brand in the memory industry is now stepping into Flash drives with their Crucial MX500 SSD.

This model is currently my primary drive and I have been using it for nearly two months now. It was first announced at CES 2017 event back in January where they showcased the product to the public eye for the first time by making some bold claims about their upcoming drive beating all other manufacturers’ top-tier models with similar specs in performance tests.

Well, that sounded really promising, right? Let’s see if that actually holds up in real life.

Features of Crucial Mx500:

Some of the features of MX500 which I really like include:

The 2.5-inch form factor with 7mm z-height. This makes it compatible with most laptops and ultrabooks on the market. It also comes in a variety of capacities – 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB models are currently available. The 4TB model is coming soon!

Low power consumption rated at just 0.075W idle, and 0.6W average active power use. This is great for laptops and other mobile devices that require low power consumption to extend battery life.

AES-256 encryption support. This is great for security and peace of mind, especially if you have sensitive data that needs to be protected.

Excellent performance. In my own personal use, I’ve found the MX500 to be one of the fastest SSDs I’ve used.

Performance:

The Crucial MX500 is a great performer when it comes to speed and overall system responsiveness. The 250GB model that I’m using has sequential read/write speeds of up to 560MB/s and 510MB/s, respectively.

Crucial MX500 performance

Random 4k read/write speeds are rated at up to 92,000IOPS and 83,000IOPS, respectively. These numbers are very impressive and blow away most other SSDs in this class.

Crucial MX500 VS Samsung 970 Evo:

In a recent comparison test between the Crucial MX500 and Samsung 970 Evo, the MX500 actually came out on top in terms of performance.

The 970 Evo is a very fast drive, but the MX500 was just a little bit faster in most of the tests. This is great news for Crucial, as it shows that their new drive can go head to head with the 970 Evo and not just be a cheaper alternative.

I’ve found the MX500 to be one of the fastest SSDs I’ve used. In my own personal use, I’ve found the MX500 to be one of the fastest SSDs I’ve used.

So overall, if you’re looking for a great performing SSD that doesn’t break the bank, the Crucial MX500 is a great option!

Conclusion:

Overall, the Crucial MX500 is an excellent choice if you’re in the market for a new SSD. It has great performance, features, and value. I highly recommend it!
